treetime

2011 is the International Year of Forests, declared by the United Nations General Assembly. Forests absorb about one third of the worldwide CO2 and additionally offer more than 75% of all plant and animal species a space for living. So preserving forests and avoiding land degradation are important in combating harmful CO2 emissions and preserving ecosystems.

During the course "Crossmedia" with graphic designer Angie Rattay at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences I informed myself about this topic and developed the concept for "treetime" in teamwork with Martina Edelhofer and Johannes Piebel. treetime should raise the awareness of our environment, inform people and please people.

treetime includes the campaign 'treetime box' as well as a website and an iPhone app. The treetime box contains 33 small bags with 3 tree seeds. Why 3? The number 3 symbolically stands for three people a beech supplies oxygen for during its life. After receiving a treetime box you should take on of the bags and plant the seeds. Afterwards you can register your tree on the website or the iPhone app. Then you give the box to friends, neighbours or strangers. The website displays the locations and pictures of all treetime beeches, information about the importance of the forests and useful tips for preserving the woods.

We developed the concept, created a corporate identity and icons, designed the 'treetime box', information brochures, a guestbook and the iPhone app. Furthermore we developed the website und created a motion graphics video. Currently 'treetime' is a prototype, which should be realized next year.
